Shirley Deuchrass is a New Zealand writer.
She has loved writing from an early age and kept writing in between her careers.
She was commended in a short story competition in the UK in 2000 despite mostly writing poetry at the time. She gained a mentorship through NZSA in poetry in 2003 and a poetry title followed in 2010.
In between, Shirley has had a large number of poety in literary magazines.
She has three social history titles to her name, two which were reprinted by the Owaka Museum in 2022.
She has written two children's novels, one which was reprinted in braille for the NZ Foundation of the Blind. An adults novel followed which is part of a trilogy and which is still in progress.
In November 2025 she published a picture book titled, "Mark and the Monster Eel" .
"Writing is part of me. I keep a notepad with me on my travels so that I can write whenever I have a few moments to myself, on a plane, in the car, or at a cafe."
